As we start this new year, we want to first thank you for your ongoing support. With your help, CCA has continued to influence and lead important discussions around issues and priorities that impact Older Coloradans. We are thrilled to continue this into 2025.

In an effort to improve our effectiveness and time together we are making a few adjustments to our Advocacy Committee Meetings (ACM) starting in January 2025. We are sharing these ahead of Monday’s meeting so that you can come prepared to discuss these changes with us.

📅 Shorter Meetings: We are shortening the meeting to 1 hr. They will now be from 9:30-10:30 every Monday during the legislative session. Please do note that we do not meet on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20th.

💻 Better Tracking Tools: We will be utilizing the tool Capitol Watch more and incorporating some of the new functionality they have, too. This tool allows us to track bills of interest, note our position, and link to full bill text.

🖐 New Voting Process: We are implementing some new procedures for proposing new bills:

  1. You must be a CCA member to vote on positions
  2. Before a bill is put to a vote, we will allow at least a week after introduction for members to review the bill details, so we can make an informed decision.
  3. If you are suggesting a bill for review, we will ask that you be prepared to present the overview of the bill and why you feel this is a bill that we should be spending time on.
  4. Any bill we currently have a position on will need to be monitored by a CCA Member and bring in other individuals to help with the bill as needed.
  5. If there are no CCA members knowledgeable and willing to take point on a given bill, we will not take a position on that bill.
  6. If no lead identified, ACM leadership will notify the bill sponsors and committee of reference and then put it in parking lot.

Thank you for your ongoing engagement and support! We look forward to working together this year.
