Keynote Address: Recent Advances in the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease

Our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Potter will discuss current approaches to the development of novel Alzheimer’s disease therapies. These include the FDA-approved drug aducanumab/Aduhelm and other monoclonal antibodies directed against the Alzheimer amyloid deposits. A different approach will also be discussed that has led to demonstration that GM-CSF, a natural human protein that stimulates the immune system, improves cognition and biomarkers of brain pathology and neuronal damage in both AD mice and, most recently in human clinical trials. Human GM-CSF, termed sargramostim or Leukine, has been approved by the FDA for 30 years for other disorders, and is now being tested in a larger, longer Phase II clinical trial of AD at CU-Anschutz.

Following Dr. Potter’s presentation, Coral Cosway will provide an update on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association. Coral is the Senior Director of Public Policy & Advocacy, Alzheimer’s Association-Colorado.
