Please call or send an email to your senators by Wednesday, April 3, and urge them to fund the Area Agencies on Aging!

The Colorado House of Representatives has completed its work on the Long Bill AND INCLUDED AN AMENDMENT TO INCREASE TO STATE FUNDING FOR SENIOR SERVICES BY $6.1 MILLION!

We are so grateful for everyone who reached out to House members this past week. But we need your help again!

The Senate will be taking up the Long Bill on Tuesday. Please call or send an email to your senator (or all the senators, if you are up for it) no later than Wednesday, April 3, and urge them to support the amendment that was added in the House. Funding for community services to older adults is important to keeping them living independently in the community, which ultimately saves the state money.

Below, we have included a sample message. Please send an email or call your senators as soon as possible!

Call or email the message below to your senator ASAP! (You also can put it in your own words.)

Subject Line: Please Support State Funding for Senior Services HB24-1430 (Long Bill)

Salutation: Dear Senator,

My name is ?_______. I live in ?_____City/County.

I thank you for your past support of Colorado’s older adults and the programs that provide much needed services to help them age in their own residences and the community. But we need your support again when the Long Bill comes before the Senate this week.

Please support increased funding for senior services like home delivered meals, transportation to doctors appointments, and other services that help older adults continue to live in affordable housing when HB24-1430 (the Long Bill) is considered in the Senate this week. State funding for these services has not been increased since 2019, which means providers of these services are facing serious challenges in meeting 2024 levels of need with 2018 levels of state funding.

We appreciate your support to help us meet this growing demand to ensure these community services continue to be available to Older Coloradans.

Thank you,
